In the dark over trip wires

The learning group 8.2 of the Stetten School Centre, together with their learning group facilitator Annette Karsten, had a spectacular first experience on the training course of the Heuberg site during a two-day excursion to the Bundeswehr site this week. Even the prelude was a rare event: the learning partners were picked up at the school grounds with transport tanks and brought to the Bundeswehr site, later they were able to ride in a howitzer.

Besides team-building exercises and action-packed fun on an obstacle course, the learning partners also had to master challenging situations: Those who ducked into a trench over which an armoured vehicle was driving in the tank roller track on the grounds can report on dealing with their own fear. And it took some courage to negotiate obstacles such as rolls of trip wire or traps that you were not allowed to trigger in the evening on the detector track with drastically limited visibility. Goosebumps were guaranteed when you had to make your way through a sewer in complete darkness on the fighter track to find your way up, or balance centimetres on a two-metre-high steel beam to reach the other end.

Not as easy as it looks: Crawling through a pipe

The learning partners also gained insights into civilian activities such as setting up a sleeping place with cots and sleeping bags. A hearty breakfast with time for personal exchange made for a relaxed start to the day, and the presentation by the Bundeswehr career office gave some of them the opportunity to start thinking about whether a career in the Bundeswehr might be an option for them.
