Rolling training centre: the Gastromobil at the school centre

An impressively large vehicle from the outside, but inside it tops every expectation: the multimedia bus "Gastromobil" is used for job fairs and at schools to offer interested parties a practical and well-founded introduction to the hospitality industry. Yesterday and today, the much admired mobile parked in front of the Alemannenhalle of the Stetten school centre and offered prospective school leavers of the community school varied insights into a creative professional field.

Too big even for the wide angle: the Gastromobil contains many stations.

Martin and Edgar guided the students through the bus with its highlights: A cinema in which apprentices from Baden-Württemberg present seven apprenticeship professions in the hotel and catering industry, as well as several experience stations that vividly bring characteristic areas from the hotel and kitchen to the point. At the spice bar, for example, you can sniff and find out that the tin labelled "cinnamon" does not contain any and is therefore incorrectly labelled, or try virtually setting a restaurant table on an interactive screen. In the kitchenette, budding creative chefs can practise putting together a menu, while the "reception" familiarises them with check-in procedures.

Not as easy as it looks: there are mistakes hidden in the assortment.

The icing on the cake of the day: two experienced employers from the region can tell the students about their many years of experience in running a restaurant. Yannick Traut, chef and head chef of the Hotel zum Kreuz inn in Stetten am kalten Markt, knows all about the tips and lifehacks of a restaurant in a rural idyll, and chef Armin Eha from the Käppeler Hof restaurant in Beuron knows how to manage to get the "Top Ferienhof 2023" award.

Setting a table in a restaurant follows strict rules.

The BO representative of the Stetten school centre Jessica Zwick would like to establish learning walks like this one as a permanent component of career orientation at the community school: "Here, hands-on learning takes place, which has a favourable influence on the decision for or against a profession. Through unmediated contact, the pupils experience experiential knowledge that is highly interconnected compared to theoretical acquisition from books or film material."
